[[here we are again. it's always such a pleasure

Fandom: Tales from the Borderlands

Plot route: Trust Jack for every choice. Asshole dialogue. However, still loyal to his buddies Vaughn and Loader Bot, because no one's that heartless.

AU: Canon-divergent at the very start of the last episode, The Vault of the Traveler. Rhys is announced as the President of Hyperion and assumes the role without incident. Jack is (probably?) still going to try to kill him down the road, but it's a way slower burn.

Rhys hasn't had contact with Sasha or Gortys, who left Hyperion with Finch and Kroger, as in canon. Fiona and Loader Bot have not been spotted on Hyperion--Rhys assumes they went down to Pandora without him. (Something about a giant monster down there? Who cares.)

At least Rhys still has his real friends, like Vaughn (underling slaving away in accounting, who seems weirdly avoidant--obviously jealous, but he'll get over that. He always does). Or Yvette (also an underling, currently serving several life sentences, but still alive and needs to just learn to say thank you once in a while!). Or Dumpy and a rotating cast of other horrifically-semi-sentient robots built for him by the one guy Rhys can count on in this company--Handsome Jack himself.

Handsome Jack and Rhys are now officially BFFs. Jack is normally in Helios's mainframe, but on the rare occasion that Rhys needs to go planet side, Jack will nicely ask to join in.* Maybe not the best business decision, but Handsome Jack has become appreciative of his audience of one. With Rhys's willing cooperation, Jack basically owns 1/4 of his body anyway!

*And/or will plug himself into Rhys's forehead without prior warning**

**Okay. No, he doesn't actually ask. But Rhys is totally cool with that***

Rhys and Jack are basically a perfect match, so what can go wrong?
